About Nelson Vargas

Nelson Vargas is a 16-year Army National Guard veteran who brings a mix of discipline, hands-on experience, and local roots to his work with buyers and sellers. A member of the #1 team in the DMV, Shepherd Homes Group, Nelson is based in Springfield and is a longtime local after more than 20 years living in Northern Virginia, giving him firsthand knowledge of the area's neighborhoods, market, and trends. He works with clients in both English and Spanish.

Before real estate, Nelson worked in Army Aviation and the JAG Corps, and studied business and entrepreneurship at American Military University. His path into real estate began with hands-on construction work he took on for free, purely to learn. That experience gave him the confidence and know-how to buy his second property and convert his first into a rental. After seeing firsthand how powerful real estate ownership can be, he earned his license to help others build the same kind of wealth.

That background shows up in the value he brings clients: deep knowledge of VA loans, experience with loan assumptions, and a sharp understanding of remodel costs sharpened by over a decade of self-managing and renovating his own rentals.

Today, Nelson helps buyers and sellers across Fairfax, Prince William, and Stafford counties navigate the market with confidence. Outside of work, you can find Nelson sharpening his golf skills or trying new local restaurants with his wife.
